WIGMORE HALL
18 MARCH 2021
7.30pm
Tavener The Lamb
Lutoslawski Musique Funèbre
Beethoven 'Heiliger Dankgesang' from String Quartet Op.132
Oliver Leith Honey Siren
Lutoslawski's inspired Musique Funèbre, combining both haunting beauty with ferocious intensity, is followed by Beethoven's monumental Adagio from his late string quartet Op.132. This deeply personal and emotive work finds the composer expressing his overwhelming gratitude for overcoming illness alongside a newly-found sense of strength and life. The programme ends with the Ivor Novello award-winning Honey Siren from composer Oliver Leith, written for the 12 Ensemble in 2019 and the subject of widespread international critical acclaim when released on their 2020 album 'Death and the Maiden'.
This concert will be live streamed on the Wigmore Hall's website, YouTube & Facebook channels. The broadcast is FREE to watch across the world. If you can, please donate to the Wigmore Hall Digital Broadcast Fund to support live performance throughout the pandemic.
The concert will be available on demand for 90 days.
